The Value of Career Assessments
Career assessments and inventories can reflect a variety of areas including ability and aptitude assessments, those assessments that reflect attitudes, beliefs and readiness, interest inventories, personality assessments and those that reflect values. The administration of assessment can provide a wealth of information to help guide and direct occupational and career planning. These assessments help an individual distinguish the careers or occupations best suited for them. Assessments can help direct a career counselor to provide the client with education needed, select programs, identify training and any other needs. The changing landscape of occupations means that those seeking assistance in career search must be resourceful (Pang, H., Lam, M. & Toporek, R.L., 2013-2014). Working with a career counselor can help an individual develop a well-rounded picture of themselves while searching for an occupation or career in the 21st century.

PERSONALITY ASSESSMENTS
These types of assessments are invaluable in career counseling as they offer insights above and beyond simple interviewing can achieve. Although a personality assessment does not measure potential or pathology and may not be preferred by academic psychology (Thompson, 2016), it does provide a measure of valuable information regarding human behavior., which can be critical for adolescents. Personality assessments can offer insight into how an individual may be described, how they may approach problem solving, and can help identify learning styles and how they might identify with specific careers.
VALUE
ASSESSMENTS
Occupational value assessments can also come in a survey or inventory format that helps an individual identify their personal values. These values can help the client with their career exploration values are issues such as types of work, salaries, hours, and other related areas that can impact an occupational choice or career planning.
Values might contain one of three dimensions including concrete which usually involves completing a task, symbolic which usually is related to some type of social context, and self-rewardwhich immediately allows for feedback and reinforcement.
VOCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS
There are also different styles of assessments for individuals with disabilities or other special needs, such as reading free assessments, observational assesssments and functional vocational evaluations.

Other assessments that might assist in the identification ofpossible occupations and careers in the exploration process can include problem solving assessments, academic and achievement assessments, executive functioning assessments as well as a variety of other tools.
